Today was scheduled as a strength workout.  I planned to start things off by hitting my next turkish get up goal, 3x5/5x16k.  As can be seen here, I did it:

However, it absolutely tanked me.  By the end of Set 1 I was shaking.  Set 2 was hard but I made it.  Set 3 was all about the will to avoid sets 1 and 2 again on another day.  That was it for my workout.  I went inside and showered.  While waiting to go out I did a few lifts of 80-90lbs on my 2 3/8" rolling handle.

The workout took so much out of me that while riding in the car to lunch I actually started getting dizzy and sick to my stomach.  That passed after I ate, but by 6pm I needed a nap and my head hurt.  I probably pushed too hard to get the goal, but am glad I did it.

Body weight hit 187 on Sunday, and actually hit 186 on Monday morning (I'm posting from the future!).  I did do mobility work and soft tissue work in the evening on Sunday.  I am pushing the limit of my movement reserves with my current training and need to do everything possible to hold myself together.  Progress is definitely present though, I was suprised when comparing the video above to my last turkish get up test:

Taken in 3 month chunks, the small steps add up.

congrats on hitting your goal, im just getting into doing TGUs, ive been putting them off for a while, but quite like them now im doing them. cant imagine how people do them with the 48kg kettlebell, but it is definitely something to aim for.

do you think your hit the target for the 20kg kettlebell by the end of the year? i know this one was on your limit, but i think you have a good chance of nailing it just in time.

I think the 20k goal is a possibility if my training goes well, but definitely not a certainty.  The dynamic of the lift is changing as I get lighter and the kettlebell gets heavier.  While the 16k tapped my conditioning heavily, it was also much more demanding on my shoulders and core than the 12k.  I think shoulder or core endurance will become the limiting factor going for the 20k kettlebell.  I do have a pressing focus planned for after my current cycle, so that may be enough to get me to the goal.

I'd like to try working up to a one rep PR on the TGU at some point.  Doing them with a barbell like Stephen does here would be really cool:

i did see a video of someone doing 80lbs on the barbell the other day, does look pretty fun. i may give it a go with an empty bar later on, im having an easy day anyway so i can fit in.

Scott: Nice video! I've discovered the TGU is an excellent spine & hip strength mobility movement.

The convenient thing about going heavy with the TGU is the several departure points during the lift when you can just drop the weight if you need to.
